It’s no secret: I’m a workaholic. In fact, my whole family is the same way. You won’t find a loafer in this bunch. We live to work.
But at the end of a long workday, it’s time for a big unwind. Wonder how I simmer down when I’ve been hitting it hard all day? Here’s my take a break list:
:: Cooking. As soon as I shut the office lights down, I turn the stove up and begin cooking up a feast. The simple act of chopping up veggies is meditative. Seriously! I have about 200 cookbooks but lately have been jamming on the NY Times Cooking app. Favorite recipes are the Crispy Fried Rice with Bacon and Cabbage or these tasty up-leveled Rice Krispie Squares with Chocolate and Pretzels. Trust me on those.
:: Some spiritual talking heads think television is a brain drain. I beg to differ! There are so many interesting shows to get lost in. I’m currently digging The Vow, Ratched, and 90 Day Fiancé (I know, I know…it’s terrible but delightfully so!). Am anxiously awaiting Pose, Ozark, and Euphoria!
:: In our house, music is always playing in the background. I’m surrounded by musicians so no surprise. But even if I wasn’t, I find music sets the mode. At night, smooth jazz rounds round out a long day. Sometimes nothing but Hip Hop will do (currently all about Megan Thee Stallion and Snow Tha Product) and others, I need some old skool stuff (been blasting Concrete Blonde). When I’m sick of all that, I’ll poke around on YouTube and find something interesting like this dope song from Foie Gras. (By the way, when I am working, I use Focus at Will which I swear keeps me on track!)
:: And, of course, books bring me right down to earth every time. I’m working my way through Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn and The Little Work by Durgadas Allon Duriel at the moment. SO GOOD. (Ahem…I’ve got a few books for ya reading pleasure.)
So there ya go. That’s how I put my tarot brain to rest so I can put it to work tomorrow. What about you? How do you hang loose at the end of your day? What are your fave activities when you just need a break?
