It’s hard to believe, but 2024 is almost done. Has it been easy? Nope. But those of us who follow the Tarot card of the year knew it would come with challenges because it was a “Strength” year.
2025 marches to a different Tarot beat. It will be ruled by The Hermit card, which invites introspection. Instead of pushing forward, this card advocates for a strategic withdrawal, a pause for self-reflection and understanding.
Here’s how you find the Universal year card:
Add up the numbers in 2025. 2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9.
Next, you match that number to a Major Arcana. 9 is associated with The Hermit. The Hermit values tranquility. After a year of building strength, a time-out feels right. But this doesn’t mean we’re all disengaged from the world or each other. Instead, it underscores the significance of quality over quantity, especially in our interactions with others.
The Hermit year demands reflection. How did we get here? Look back at the past year or further to understand the path that led to the present. What signs were missed? What opportunities worked out well? Which goals still require attention? Reconnect with the bigger picture, plans, goals, and achievements. Above all, look at your role in the world. What part did you play – and how might that change in the future?
This card seeks wisdom. This is a fantastic year for study. Deepen your knowledge with books, classes, and lectures. Get a library card. Work closely with a trusted teacher or mentor. It’s also possible you could play that role with others. Share what you know and be open to other ways of looking at the world. You might discover there is so much that you don’t know.
Remember, the number 9 is associated with endings. Certain situations may be ready to wrap up in your life and the world. Some things will come to a close, paving the way for a new path. Let go and trust that the Universe will sort it out.
The Hermit is associated with Virgo, a sign that knows how to clean, declutter, heal, and serve. 2025 brings an opportunity to clean up after ourselves and others. No matter how big the mess may be, a concentrated effort will clear the slate and lay the groundwork for a fresh start.
On the world’s stage, it may be time to press pause. A collective step back may allow for clarity. Many worked hard in the past year, only to see their goals fall short. Rest is needed. Wise elders will emerge, and the heroes may wear cloaks instead of capes. Many world leaders may retire or step out of the spotlight for other reasons. The fight to preserve wisdom could be intense as institutions such as libraries, schools, and universities come under attack. We must not let history repeat itself, or we could return to a new dark age. The wisest among us have learned from the past and will shine a light on what we need to do to keep moving toward an enlightened future.
It’s best for all of us to take a peek at history if we wish to understand the potential of what could happen again. As Mark Twain once said: “History never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme.”
Here are some things to do to best move through 2025:
1. REST.
2. Gather wisdom as much as you can.
3. Protect schools, libraries, universities, and other places of knowledge.
4. Be discerning about what information you take in. Search for facts. Do not believe everything you hear.
5. Get off social media as much as possible. Delete Twitter. Put your phone down. Get outside and touch grass.
6. Embrace quiet time.
7. Share your knowledge.
8. Look for ways to give back. That could be time, money, or other resources.
9. Cut ties with toxic people. Do not let obligatory relationships hold power over you.
10. Learn from the past. Not just your past but the world’s. Read On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder.
Above all, take good care of yourself. The fight ahead is long – and you need to be rested and ready to do your part.
