The Tarot Card of the Year for 2024

In just a few weeks, the year will come to an end. 2023 has felt like a long, rocky ride, but it’s almost over. Now it’s time to look ahead and see what 2024 has to offer.

According to the Tarot, 2024 is governed by the Strength card. That means challenges are afoot – but there are opportunities to get back in control, too.

Here’s how you find the Universal yearly card.

8 is the number associated with the Strength card. The Strength card indicates courage will be needed this year. Difficulties could arise, but a gentle, firm approach will help. No matter how big the problems may be, perseverance will pay off.

Big-hearted Leo corresponds to Strength, a nod to the lion on the card. Pride, lust, and “animal desires” could also dominate. While there is nothing wrong with passion, it’s best not to let it get out of hand. Like the gentle maiden in this card, you’ll want to practice restraint. Thankfully, there is infinite energy available to “tame the beast,” as long as you remain mindful of your appetites.

On the world stage, issues around dominance, ego, and power will be at play. Some of the people in charge will want to claim the center stage with loudness and fear-based tactics. But those who take a compassionate approach could turn the beast around. The reason why: they inspire trust, another aspect of this card. Gentleness brings trust, while bullying ultimately scares people away. Those who practice kindness could inspire a whole new generation to vote.

Strength and Justice

Keep in mind the number 8 is associated with the Justice card in some decks, such as the Marseilles. Waite changed Strength and Justice in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot to correspond to the order of the zodiac, but some readers will prefer the original assignment. Justice means just that: the year delivers the consequences of past actions for yourself and the world at large. A rebalancing could take place in 2024 as the powers that be get reorganized. Negotiations and compromise will be necessary as some leaders prepare to exit. The old guard gives way to the new guard and some kings will lose their crowns, especially if those emperors aren’t wearing clothes. Wannabe dictators could try to use the law to hold onto power, but Justice says: this won’t last in the long run.

Ultimately, it’s best to stay grounded, build inner strength, and confront unfairness or injustice, wherever you see it. That means around you, the world, or within you.

Here are some things to do to best move through 2024:

1. Make self-care a priority. The world needs you to be the strongest, best version of you.
2. Stand up for those who can’t. Be the strength where it is needed most, whether that be your family, community, or the planet.
3. Level up your spiritual practices. It’s easy to lose faith when everything seems to be a challenge. The more spiritual support you have, the better.
4. Remember to take breaks when you can. Rest, unplug, and limit caffeine. Give your nervous system time to chill.
5. VOTE. This will be a critical year. The consequences of decisions made this year will reverberate for a long time – so choose wisely.
