I’ve written a few weeks back about my manuscript fiasco. Since that time, I’ve been able to patch my rough draft together into something that resembles a book. But now…the editing begins in earnest.
Frankly, I prefer the editing part. Trimming things down, weeding out the grammar issues, and wrangling the writing not to mention the thrill of organizing the content. No, I’m not kidding when I say this. I truly enjoy editing.
But it’s a lot of work. It requires tons of time, which I don’t often have. I’m having to make space, breathing room, so that I can keep plugging away, tap-tap-tapping on the computer.
At times, my back hurts even though I sit ergonomically correct. I’m a stickler for posture. Even so, long hours at the keyboard means stiff hips, sore lumbar regions, and tense shoulders. I crave a massage. I look out the window and wish I could be doing fun stuff.
But fun and massages and even wine sometimes has to wait when there is a job that needs to be done. All the good stuff is on hold while duty calls me back to the keyboard.
While my time is precious for a few more weeks, I know that soon enough I will reach the end and be able to rest, satisfied with all the work I’ve done. Until that time, you’ll find me chained to my desk, writing hard with copious amounts of green tea, still breathing somehow.
