The past few weeks have been a lot. You know what I’m talking about if you live in the States. It’s hard to feel hopeful when the news cycle is non-stop drama. Even so, we have to go on, figure out how to navigate these times and care for each other.
It’s a tall order, and I’m not sure if I have the right answers. In fact, I feel like I’m short on them. So, like most folks, I turn to the stars for guidance. But it’s retrograde city, so that’s not comforting. That adds more weight to the existential dread bubbling under the surface.
Yesterday, I woke up to a vicious thunderstorm that split the sky in half. It was a stark illustration of how I felt. Plus, it was a sign that something was breaking apart. But what?
The storm passed, and suddenly, it was 70 degrees and sunny. Gorgeous. This is walking weather, so I was delighted to put on a light coat and get in some steps. As I meandered through my neighborhood, life went on. People were out with their dogs and children. The local coffee joint was a hive of activity. Living was still happening despite the terrible things going on.
Moving along the sidewalk, I noticed pretty purple flowers peeking at me. It was almost as if they were trying to beg me to smile. They were the first I’ve seen so far this year. For a moment, I was tempted to pick them, but I knew it would hasten their demise. These posies do not last long.
Everything is a sign. The storm is a sign of change to come. The flowers a reminder that new things pop up all the time. Signs of the time. Nothing is forever. Not the weather, not the nature, and certainly not the current status quo, even though it seems like we’re in for a long, hard ride. This, too, shall pass.
