Every morning, I pull a personal tarot card. I’ve been in this habit since I began studying tarot. It’s a wonderful way to learn, and it provides guidance for my day. I also post daily draws for my Patreon crew and bi-weekly across social media for the public. There is always hope that this will inspire, entertain, or, in some cases, warn so that folks can avoid drama and live their best lives.
I love it when I pull The Sun, Nine of Cups, or Ace of Pentacles. Those are personal faves – and good omens. Every so often, it seems like I am stuck on nothing but the negative cards for days on end. The Tower, Seven of Swords, and my most hated, the Five of Swords. It feels like a bad game of Scrabble, where I get nothing but vowels. I hate it when that happens. So do other folks.
“Why don’t you ever pull good cards?”
Sigh. I do. But when this is a streak of not-so-happy tarot cards, people forget about the good ones pulled in the not-so-distant past. If I pull only positive cards for a few days, eventually, someone will point out that this “doesn’t fit their situation.” You can’t win.
The cards are always pulled randomly from a face-down pile. I turn it over, write the interpretation in a stream of consciousness, then go about my day. If I paused to rewrite a positive or negative interpretation, it wouldn’t be authentic.
In other words, I do what I do and try my best.
Believe me, I’d love to have nothing but The Sun all the way down. Like that kid in the old Twilight Zone episode, it would be lovely to make every day sunny (although that kid is kind of evil). But that’s not how life works – or tarot. Sometimes, we get a good hand; other times, not so much. To only push the positive means ignoring the challenges.
Ultimately, no matter what card is dealt, what you do with it matters. As I always say, “The cards tell a story – but you write the ending.” You have agency, and choices are always available.
Today, my personal card is The Sun. Which is ironic considering the post. I’m off to spend time with the grandbaby, followed by a writing session, dinner, and The White Lotus (do NOT reveal anything – I just started season three!). Because that’s the choice I would make anyway, even if I pulled the dreaded Five of Swords. If that were my card, I’d sidestep the storms and head straight for the Sun.
