The Hit List - Playing with my fire

I couldn’t believe how mad I got yesterday. It might be the combo between yesterday’s Moon in Aries and Mars zipping through the skies. Not that I want to blame the cosmos (I hate astro-excuses) but it seemed whack for me to lose my cool like I did. So I did blame the planetary action – and my Moon in Scorpio! Ha!

What set me off? A boundary pusher with passive-aggressive lingo showing up in my inbox. This particular person should have known better too because it’s not the first time they made me mad.

But there they were…ignoring my policies and wanting an exception. Using coded, loaded language that triggered all sorts of other things too. It took everything in my power not to snap. I sent a curt email and then promptly threw a raging fit.

My tantrums are legendary. I’m talking pan-throwing, kicking walls, and screwdrivers to throats (don’t ask about that last one). It’s rare that I get mad these days but when I do – it’s volcanic, physical, and violent.

And scary for the people who have to live with me. (Ironically, my husband likes it when I get furious.)

When it comes to shadow work, let’s just say my anger issue is a huge work in progress. The days of screwdrivers are long gone but those moments when I blow the gasket still come from time to time. And when they do, I’m quick to say “I’m sorry” when it’s warranted.

But sometimes: anger is acceptable. When boundaries are crossed, it’s normal to get fired up. That fire acts as an alert that something is not right. Like a red rash that shows up when you’ve irritated your skin with the wrong moisturizer, a flicker of anger can be a sign that something is getting under your skin and you probably shouldn’t ignore it.

The trick is to figure out how to use that fire without getting burned – or burning the whole shebang to the ground. This is what I’m working on now and yesterday was a not-so-gentle reminder that the heat is still on.

In other words: the inner work is rarely, if ever, done.

“Anger is a sentry, stalking the edges of our boundaries and standing ready to defend them.” ― Jessica Moore
