The Hit List - Little breaks

I am writing this from a hotel. A hot mug of green tea is next to me. It’s quiet and the sun is beginning to set. Soon, I’ll join friends for dinner. This is the second time I’ve been out of town this month.

I haven’t gone far. These journeys have also been short. Even so, the little breaks in my calendar make it feel like a real vacation, something that is hard for me to do at this time for various reasons. Between a new book, caregiving, an elderly cat, and all the responsibilities that come with running a business, it’s hard to get away from it all, especially for an extended period. This means I have to take what I can get, even if only a day.

Next week, I have one more mini getaway and then it’s time to settle in for the winter…and all the attention a new book needs. But for now, I’m going to enjoy the little breaks in the routine because they will be gone in the blink of a cat’s eye.
