Confession: I’m a very happy person. That gal who wakes up perky and full o’ glee? Yep, that’s me (annoying, I know….). You will rarely, if ever, see me in a bad mood.
Don’t get me wrong – I can do darker than dark (Moon in Scorpio = brooding James Dean loner type), but generally, I am as happy as a bunny at a carrot farm.
Why?
It’s because I focus on what brings me pleasure rather than cling to the crap that pisses me off. I’ve got anger amnesia. I might get pissy now and then, but it rarely lasts long. I’m usually on to something brighter (and fun) in no time at all. (That being said, when my boundaries are crossed, the grudge match with me is a long, hard slog. You don’t want to go there with me.)
I consciously choose to be happy. Doesn’t matter if I’ve had a bad day or if some heavy shit is going on around me – I will look for the light in the darkness and shift my attention towards peace, kindness and gratitude as quickly as I can.
It’s because I believe that what we fixate on, grows.
Occasionally, it’s okay to give yourself permission to sulk. In fact, sometimes a big baby tantrum feels pretty good (You should see me when I play Scrabble – I’m a sore loser and I always lose. Therefore, don’t play with me. It’s ugly.).
But, in the grand scheme of things, I know that I have it pretty good: a loving marriage, great home, independent children, health, and a career I adore. As soon as I start counting my blessings, my conniption becomes rather impotent and I’m back to my happy-go-lucky self.
That’s the key: bring awareness to the magnificent gifts you’ve been given, even if only the gift of life. If you can do that, you can find happiness, no matter what. It’s up to you. Be better, not bitter.
I always follow my haunches. 🙂
Other stuff:
This week, I discovered my animal totem thanks to Emelie Archer! Turns out I’m a Red Wolf, which makes so much sense. Find out your spirit animal over at A Forbidden Life.
I also got a reading from my new tarot buddy, Serenity Edward, over at Tarot Chick and I LOVED it! She’s very good – you may want to check her work out. (Yes, readers do like to get readers from other readers from time to time. Perspective, yo.)
What if you were one of the “best attractions in the city”? A Scottish woman found herself being called just that.
Pugs always make me all mushy and cuddly. I love these Best Picture Oscar pugs. ADORABLE! (Memo to self: a pug a day keeps the grumpiness away.)
More adorable animals with their mini me buddies. Say awwwww……..
Business struggling? Sometimes it’s not your “abundance mindset”, it’s your crappy copy. Makenna Johnston lays the smack down!
I am digging Boyfriend, the nerdy female rapper. Hilarious + talented.
Early Mapplethorpe polaroids. He always fascinated me.
Maybe you get bad customer service because you’re a bad customer. I know exactly what this guy is talking about. Seen plenty of that action this week.
A wife challenges her husband to a year of penis drawings in a white board. Challenge completed. OMG
On my covet list: these gorgeous snake earrings from Amy Zerner. LOVE.
Get your thrift on with ten things you should never pay for over at Lifehacker.
This post from the Rock n Roll Bride really got to me. Big tears.
Also on the got to me list: these photos of actor John Schneider. Stunning and heart wrenching.
What I’m Grateful For:
Everything – I am blessed.
Soundtrack for 3/1/14: Happy by Pharrell – this is the song to listen to anytime you are feeling a bummer coming on:
Be happy this week, friends!
