Any time I find myself getting down with the state of the world or some other random thing (yes, random crap can kill my buzz), I count my blessings. I try to be grateful. On really dark days, that’s not always easy to do.
But I still find something, some person, or some way that I am blessed.
Focusing on your blessings shifts energy.
For example, recently, I messed up my foot. Bad. This is the same foot that I had previously hurt when I dropped a full keg of beer on it during my bartending days. (Yep..a FULL keg.) My foot turned a light purple and it hurt for weeks. But I was grateful that I could still walk on it, limp and all.
Grateful, not hateful.
A few weeks ago, my daughter was robbed in Spain. I was grateful she was safe and coming home soon. Blessings, blessings.
Two weeks ago, my unofficially adopted daughter Jessica was robbed at gunpoint. I was grateful that she didn’t get assaulted…or worse. She lost a phone, her ID and a favorite purse but we didn’t lose her.
So grateful.
It’s easy to stay in wallow land, to give dark stuff a prominent place in your mind. But, in the long run, it does nothing except take away the beauty that surrounds you every single day, even if that beauty is only the wondrousness of being alive.
Count your blessings today – even if your own blessing is that you are here for another day.
