I’ve got a vampire problem. In fact, somedays I feel just like Sookie Stackhouse.
Not sure who that is? She’s a character from HBO’s True Blood, a show about vampires living in the South. Sookie was the love interest of the two main vampires – and she had “fairy blood” in her veins which made her irresistible to all vampires. Apparently sucking fairy blood gives them the ability to be in the sun. (Plus it tastes good too.)
My vampires take on a different form that goes something like this recent conversation:
“But I like your energy. I just want to be around your energy.” she said. Her smile was meant to be friendly but her eyes were thirsty.
That comment is supposed to be a compliment. But instead of giving me a warm fuzzy, it made me feel like grabbing a wooden stake, filling a water pistol with holy water and slamming a whole bulb of garlic in my mouth.
I’ve got fairy blood, yo. I need to protect my self. Strong boundaries, protective energetic work, limited time with certain people – that’s my vampire killing kit.
You might have fairy blood too. How to know:
- You attract people who like to dump on you.
- You feel completely depleted after being around certain people.
- Recuperation time is necessary when you’ve had an argument or spent time with a Negative Nelly.
- People don’t respect your no and tend to push past your boundaries.
- You’re an empath and highly sensitive.
Empathic people often have lousy boundaries. It’s what makes them good at connecting with others but too often those leaky boundaries get them in trouble.
That trouble shows up in the form of people taking advantage of their sympathetic nature and using them as a personal dumping ground. Negative people glom on to empaths because they need an “energy transfusion.” It’s vampiric to the core.
So what can you do when you’ve got energy vamps lurking around you? How might you steer clear – or find a way to deal with ‘em? I’ve got some resources, fey friend.

Because you deserve to have your boundaries and energy protected. No garlic necessary.
This is an allium flower or garlic flower. I have garlic flowers all around my home. They are pretty but also highly protective. And purple – my favorite color!
