The Hit List - Creating space

This weekend, my office is getting a paint job. It’s long overdue. That means my space looks like a tornado hit it. Everything has been boxed up or moved around to make room for the painter. I hate it because it makes me feel anxious. But once it’s done, I can put this mess away.

As I began packing things up, I found myself getting frustrated by the amount of stuff I have, namely tarot decks. I don’t even know how many I own – but I do know that there is a chestful of them and three bins. This is way too much.

So I decided that I am going to toss a whole lot of these decks.

The ones I never use, the art I don’t like, or the decks associated with bad memories. Out they go! I know I won’t miss them one bit. After all, if they are languishing in a drawer, there is no love there.

This will create space for other things – or nothing at all.

I’ve been in a space-clearing mood for a while now. Recently, I made the hard decision to end my podcasts. I’m also keeping my weekends lighter than a down pillow so I can cook – or do nothing at all.

It’s so easy to clutter your life with things, people, and obligations. This drains your energy, something I’ve been feeling for some time. I have no idea what may come into my life or my calendar but I do know what won’t be: anything I don’t like.

So as you cruise into your weekend, ask yourself: what am I holding on to that brings me down? What am I saying yes to that doesn’t lift me up? Who gets access to my time?

Reflect on that and then release what no longer fits. You’ll be amazed at how great you feel when you have space to think, move, and breathe.
