Ah, life.
It has a way of kicking you in the shin sometimes, doesn’t it? There are so many reasons to feel down lately…or so it seems. The state of the world certainly doesn’t leave a good taste in the mouth. Is it going to hell in a handbasket? While it might look that way, keep in mind that there have been plenty of times in history when it felt like everything was exploding all at once.
But still, somehow, we prevailed. Humans are remarkably resilient.
Like many folks, I am wary of what 2025 and beyond might bring. Even so, I look at the astrology and see glimmers of hope, grit, revolution, and ingenuity. I know we’ll get through whatever is coming. Perhaps we’ll emerge stronger or, at the very least, a little wiser.
While one of my eyeballs is trained on what’s happening out there, my other eye is laser-focused on a sick, elderly cat and a loved one with a serious condition. This has left me cross-eyed for the moment. Where do I put my attention? And for how long? If I take my eyes off one thing, what happens?
I don’t have answers to those questions.
All I know is that I’m resilient. I’ve lost cats and loved ones many times over. Each time, I grieved and eventually moved on. In time, those losses became a source of strength. Like weight-bearing exercises.
I think about bones a lot. Bones are remarkably resilient. They continue to strengthen, especially when forced to do heavy lifting.
I broke my leg when I was two. This meant six weeks in traction, alone in the hospital. My family had to leave me there because that is how it was done back in the day. Plus, there were other mouths to feed. I cried for my daddy when he needed to leave. He said it broke his heart. Eventually, I accepted the situation. I stopped crying. My leg healed. I toughened up. I learned it was not so bad to be alone.
I became resilient at two years old.
No matter what breaks now, I know I’ll heal. We’ll all heal and grow and learn. We’re resilient.
And if the whole world falls apart? The earth will come back to life. Because Mother Earth is the most resilient of all.
