It’s been over a week since my fall down the stairs. My ankle is healing – but still not back to normal. My life has become very small as this house is filled with stairs, which is not the best situation for a badly sprained foot.
I’ve been mostly relying on a walker, but now I’m graduating to a “boot,” a large, clumsy contraption designed to protect the foot while I heel. This cumbersome device requires an “even up shoe” for the other foot if I want to walk less like Frankenstein (and not injure my hips).
Today is going to be the first time I’m leaving the home. A trip to the accountant is in order – and his office is NOTHING BUT STAIRS. It would be funny if this damn foot didn’t hurt so much.
But onward I go, with my clunky boot, crutches, and determination.
Situations like this remind me of how fortunate I am. Nothing is broken and this isn’t permanent. There are other people in my life who have to manage stuff like this – and more – daily. I have mad respect for those folks. They are heroes. Sometimes you don’t realize that until you walk a few feet in their shoes…or boots.
