The Hit List - The anticipation of February

The other day, we had a little blizzard action happening in my neck o’ the woods. But today, the sun is shining, temps are rising, and all that snow will melt into little rivers. Traces may remain for the rest of the month, but Wisconsinites know it’s temporary. Heck, some folks are walking around in light coats already because the slightest bit of warm weather this time of year generates excitement.

February is an unpredictable time if you live in the northern part of the States. We never count on that groundhog, who always seems determined to predict another six weeks of winter. Instead, we know it’s not quite like that.

This is a short month, and spring is on the way. The hardest part of the winter season is behind us. Hints of what’s to come begin to show up with bright, sunny days (my vampire self is squinting at the very thought of it) and peeks of green. Sure, there may still be the surprise of a snow squall in the middle of spring, but February says: this will be less and less likely.

When this time of year arrives, I am filled with anticipation. Longer days, walks around town, cute jackets…it’s coming soon, soon, soon…

Nothing is permanent, and suddenly, everything seems possible. Because it’s true. No matter what the groundhog says.
