Episode 198 – Tarot and Disability with Sara YK

For too long, the tarot has been centered around white, cis-gendered able-bodied folks, Things have begun to change as more people demand representation. While strides have been made, the disabled community is still under-represented. Social justice activist and tarot reader Sara YK joins me to talk about a wide range of topics such as inclusivity in tarot decks, reading for disabled people, working as a pro when you have a disability, apps, and more. Sara opened my eyes to many things about tarot and disability – and I think our conversation will do the same for you.

About Sara:

Sara YK is a white, cis-gendered disabled woman. She has been reading Tarot since 2004. She has studied under Theresa Reed, aka The Tarot Lady as well as Diane Bloom of Free Spirit Crystals. Sara spent 10 years as a social worker for homeless teens in the Milwaukee area, as well as doing crystal healing at CORE/El Centro (a holistic healing center for the uninsured/underinsured). She has done spoken presentations for psych disability justice.

She is currently a part-time grant coordinator and organizer for a nonprofit community healthcare clinic. Sara has always been drawn to tarot and the healing arts, she has a masters level education in Counseling Psychology. She is infused with the desire to show up for her community whenever possible. Her physical health has been on a sharp decline since 2013, and she continues to find ways to remain present. She has been psych and physically Disabled since she was a child. Right now she is living through kidney disease.
