Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Shelley: Tarot personifies the realist friend you’ll have in your corner. Not overly optimistic or pessimistic, those 78 cards just tell you how it is. Wonderful for analyzing your past, gaining clarity or confirmation on the present circumstances, and insight for your future outlook. I enjoy using them in conjunction with oracle cards, especially with readings that need to be handled with a more delicate approach. I also use oracle cards, which are also enlightening. I view them as “the cherry on top of what at times may feel like a shit storm sundae.”

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Shelley: First and foremost, I want clients to know that they are in a safe space, and I’m accepting of all no matter their walks of life. Being a tarot reader, and holistic healer, my goal is to get one’s spiritual, physical, mental, and financial well-being in alignment. Both virtually and in-person, I’m relatable, attentive, and intuitive. My words are genuine and I enjoy speaking life and encouragement to my clients so they can walk away feeling more confident, capable, and beautiful than when they initially met me. It’s important that no matter what topic is discussed in our reading, that we end it on a high note.

In addition to my use of oracle cards, another way I ensure my clients walk away with some semblance of peace is by doing sound bowl meditations. To create the most healing environment, I couple them with affirmations tailored specifically to what they are experiencing so they can transmute their situation and move forward with hope. By reframing your mindset, and removing the blockages in your chakras (energy centers in the body), we help remove the blockages affecting manifestations of inner and outer growth.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Shelley: That first step is always the hardest, but there’s nothin’ to it but to do it, beloved. When I first began, imposter syndrome set in. I doubted myself and wondered “who am I to think that he wants to hear what I have to say? “ I kept receiving confirmations from Spirit (the Universe/God/ Higher power) to the point I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Spirit made me feel so uncomfortable in my circumstances at the time, that I was forced to walk in my purpose, and create the life I really wanted by helping others in a way I have never before imagined.

I promise you – you are needed. Your energy and message will resonate with exactly who it’s supposed to. One of my favorite quotes is from Olympian Steve Prefontaine, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” I urge you to be consistent in your practice, journal, trust your intuition, take classes, and book with other readers. You don’t have to be an Olympian-level reader for your voice to matter. It inherently does. Don’t let fear and anxiety stop you from showing up to the starting blocks!

Keep going until you turn that “who am I to give anyone spiritual counsel?”
