Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community! Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them! I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.
One of the things that I love about the internet is the ability to connect with fabulous peers all over the world. Take David Harvey of Tarot Avenue for example. He’s all the way in Australia but thanks to the internet, we’ve been able to make a connection. I’m glad we did.
David is a talented tarot reader and a gentle guide for his clients. His goal is to empower clients with tools and strategies so that they can make great decisions. This approach has made him a trusted source for the lucky people who get to work with him.
He’s also a blogger and teacher – with new tarot + business courses coming soon. No doubt this will delight his fans – and bring new people his way! Until those doors open, his blog will be the place to learn from him. With posts such as When NOT to get a Tarot Reading and 9 Proven Ways to Sell Tarot Readings and Reach New Customers, you can get a taste of the wisdom he’s serving up. In addition to all this, he sells lovely tarot and astrology-inspired candles. How fun is that?
If you’re looking for a grounded, practical tarot reader – or a sweet smelling candle, get to Tarot Avenue. It’s where people who want to be in the know love to go.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?
David: I believe that tarot should be accessible to everybody. There are endless ways that tarot can be used to improve your life. Whether it is finding your calling, improving your intuition or decision making – I think that we can all benefit in some way
Tarot can be a bit like a best friend – it will always be there to support you when needed but will sometimes tell you things that you don’t necessarily want to hear!
For me, the cards represent every human and even spiritual experience that we can have. The tarot can help us get in touch with our own intuition to help us access that inner knowledge so we make decisions that are best for us on every level.
Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?
David: I really like to consult on the questions that are being asked. It’s important to get to the bottom of the issue and getting a clear question is one of the keys to having a great reading. My readings are very focused on empowerment. I like to leave everybody with action points on what they can do to get closer to their full potential.
I have a very down to earth approach that is accessible to everybody. While I don’t sugarcoat things, I do like to look for the light in the reading and focus on how the querent can make the best out of every possible situation. There is always a chink of light to be found, even at the darkest times.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring Tarot reader?
David: Just start! So many people get put off by learning all the meanings but it’s very important to pick up the cards and just start. There really is no end to learning tarot as we and the meanings are constantly evolving.
One tip that I often give to students when they are learning is to say what they are seeing in the cards out loud. We often get in our heads and when it comes to reading for others it can be tricky as we have never verbalized what we are seeing or feeling about the cards.
Build a personal connection with your cards and through practice, you will start to discover what each card means to you. This is important so that you are not giving robotic readings where you are reciting the traditional meanings.
There are so many layers that you can add to your readings – numerology, astrology, Kabbalah, symbolism etc but you don’t need to know everything at once.
The most important thing to me is to enjoy the process. You will learn so much about yourself through the process. Have fun with it and don’t put any pressure on yourself to be perfect.
