Star School Lesson 31: Neptune in the Houses

In the next part of our Star School series, we’re looking at the planets through the houses.

In this lesson, we’ll look at the Neptune in the houses in the natal chart.

Last month, we looked at Uranus in the houses. This month, it’s time to talk about mystical Neptune.

Neptune is spiritual, dreamy, creative, and unselfish. Wherever Neptune sits in your natal chart will indicate how you express your mystical side. iIt’s also connected with karma, visualization, dreams, and the psychic realm. Look at where Neptune is holding court and you’ll know how you are a conduit for spirit or where you might be called to make sacrifices for the good of all.

When afflicted, Neptune will show where you’re flaky, unreliable, or unrealistic. A poorly aspected Neptune is all about self-delusion and escapism.

Neptune in the 1st house: If you have Neptune in the 1st, you’re probably somewhat mysterious to others. People may have a hard time seeing you for YOU. Even if you’re busy being yourself, they may not “get” you. That doesn’t mean you’ll be an outcast – it’s just that there is something different about you that intrigues others. You project an aura of mysticism and may be highly intuitive. Your sensitivity may allow you to connect deeply with others and you possess clairvoyant tendencies. Creativity comes naturally to you as well and you may have artistic or musical tendencies. If afflicted, Neptune in the 1st house can produce a deluded drifter with addictive tendencies who moves through life without any real direction. It can also produce a psychic sponge who can have trouble with negative spiritual or psychic forces. In those cases, it is wise to leave the occult alone. Neptune in the 2nd house: Neptune in the 2nd house can indicate idealism around money. For example, you may feel that money is a way to do good in the world. In that case, you may be drawn to charitable and humanitarian organizations. You have no problem giving the shirt off your back to anyone in need. Or you may be one of those hippy-dippy types who believe that “money is the root of all evil.” In that case, you may eschew money altogether and choose to reject materialism. For higher mind types, money can be made through mystical or spiritual work (this is an excellent placement for tarot readers and the like). In fact, the intuition could be used to make money and acquire wealth. If you have Neptune here, you would be wise to seek out professional financial advice, even if you’re well aspected. Money can come and go with this placement and impracticality is common. Indiscriminate use of money or a rejection of finances altogether could drain your resources. Neptune in the 3rd house: If Neptune sits in your 3rd house, you’re blessed with a strong imagination, fabulous intuition, and kindly demeanor. Your sixth sense is on point and your creativity has no limits. Your ability for visualization is amazing, which may mean an attraction to the visual arts or mass media. Early childhood education could have been unusual in some way (ex: homeschooled). That being said, traditional schooling may be boring or, in the case of an afflicted chart, you may experience learning difficulties, foggy thinking, or forgetfulness. Learning can be a challenge in those cases and you may need to seek an alternative type of schooling in order to realize your gifts. If your Neptune is afflicted, it can also indicate trouble with contracts or siblings. You would be wise to look over contracts with great care – and perhaps have strict boundaries with siblings. Neptune in the 4th house: This placement of Neptune can indicate an unusual home life. Perhaps one of your parents were a bit unusual – or mystical. Maybe your mom was the local witch or dad was a hair metal guitarist. Or maybe you’ve got some sort of karmic emotional tie with your mother. Whatever the case may be, your early domestic environment may have felt much different than your peers. This placement can also indicate a home near water or a love of being by the ocean. Sometimes, in the case of an afflicted Neptune, one of your parents could have struggled with addiction or the home may have been chaotic. You may not have gotten much support from your parents. In worse case scenarios, there might have been neglect or skeletons in the family closet. Time spent in meditation or nature will do you good. It’s also possible that your family life will require great sacrifice from you. That kid who ends up taking care of the young uns because mom is too busy at work or dad is a ne’er do well – THAT. Neptune in the 5th house: If you’ve got Neptune in the 5th, you may have a strong romantic nature, which could work out two ways: either you’ll have unusual circumstances that color your romantic life (ex: love at first sight), or you’ll wear rose-colored glasses and choose partners that leave you feeling disappointed (that dude who said he’d leave his wife for you…). You’ll want to be grounded as possible when selecting a partner. This placement of Neptune gives intense creative talent, especially in the performing arts. It can also indicate that your kids will be sensitive and intuitive. As a parent, you’ll be called to make many sacrifices for them. However, if Neptune is afflicted, it can indicate poor parenting or children out of wedlock. If you have this placement, you’ll want to be sure you’re ready for the responsibilities that children bring. It can also indicate that parent who plays the martyr card. “After all I’ve done for you…” Famous people with this placement: Angelina Jolie, Mick Jagger, Drake, Kate Hudson.

Neptune in the 6th house: This is a fantastic placement if you work in the healing or mystical arts. There is an emphasis on spirituality and service, which can be especially good for naturopaths and spiritual healers. But this can also be a good placement if you work in a hospital, charitable institution, or in any of the sacred arts (tarot, psychic, mediumship, animal communicator, etc.). If your Neptune is afflicted, it can indicate problems with unemployment – often due to your own unreliability. Your lack of organization could create trouble for you. Better Marie Kondo that work environment if you want peace. Relationships with coworkers could be challenging due to your sensitivity. (Always taking everything the wrong way.) An afflicted Neptune can also indicate trouble with alcohol or drugs. If you’ve got that in your chart, you’ll want to keep the partying to a minimum or avoid it altogether. Neptune in the 7th house: Like the 5th house Neptune, this placement can be funky when it comes to relationships. Your partnerships, both business and romantic, could seem fated in some way. Perhaps there are some karmic ties or you may have unusual situations that bring people into your life. Great care must be taken in the choice of partners, especially because this placement can give too much sensitivity to the moods and whims of others. It’s also possible you may attract “emotionally unavailable types” or partners who aren’t free. If Neptune is afflicted, there can be delusions about a partner or you may be deceived by a charlatan (Catfish!). It’s also possible that you could be the deceptive or unreliable one – changing your mind and leaving partners confused. An afflicted Neptune could also indicate trouble with lawsuits. If you want to avoid drama, think before you sign anything and keep your scandals under control! Discernment is your BFF. Neptune in the 8th house: If you’ve got Neptune here, you’re not just intuitive, you’re super-psychic. You’ve got that clairvoyance thing down – and may be interested in mysticism, spiritual work, or communicating with the dead! Dreams are vivid and often contain important messages. Astral travel is also a possibility. COOL. If your Neptune is well-aspected, you can make money through a mystical path. Neptune in the 8th can also indicate strange or secretive circumstances around joint finances, taxes, and legacies. For example, you may have a partner who hides their money. Or your grandma may want you to stay in a haunted house for a week before you collect your inheritance (kidding on that!). If Neptune is poorly aspected, it can indicate financial loss through deception (ex: you get conned by a Nigerian scammer – or you try to launder money and get busted). If you have this placement, you’d be wise to watch your money carefully – and be as honest as possible if you want to avoid trouble. Neptune in the 9th house: This placement of Neptune might make you interested in mysticism. Which means you might be a religious scholar or interested in spending time in spiritual places such as ashrams. You could also be drawn to world travel and this could be a way to broaden your horizons. If your Neptune is afflicted, it could indicate an attraction to cults or dubious spiritual leaders. You’ll have to be awfully careful about who you decide to follow. A better path in this case: avoid ‘em all and think for yourself. A poorly aspected Neptune here can also indicate troublemaking inlaws. If you have that in your chart, do NOT create a mother-in-law wing on your home. Nothing good will come of that. Neptune in the 10th house: Your career may be somewhat unusual if you’ve got Neptune in the 10th. For example you may work as an astrologer, spiritual leader, or clairvoyant. Or there may be an element of glamor and creativity to your work as in the case of an actress or musician. Strange circumstances could surround your profession which could create a feeling of karma (ex: you may be “discovered” at a disco and be propelled into the public eye). It’s also possible that some element of your career may involve humanitarian work. If Neptune is happy here, you could receive accolades for your unique talents or professional sacrifices. Afflicted? Then it’s possible that you could have a major scandal that wrecks all your good work. An afflicted Neptune can also indicate a father that wasn’t around. Perhaps he was a heavy drinker…or maybe just a deadbeat. Famous people with this placement: Princess Diana, JFK, Oprah Winfrey, Russell Brand.

Neptune in the 11th house: If you have Neptune in the 11th, your friends may be unusual or unreliable. Idealism runs strong and you may be drawn to humanitarian or spiritual groups. It’s also possible that you may be a member of mystical organizations such as the Freemasons. Whether you’re hanging out with secret societies or a group of beatniks and bohemians, your social circle won’t be dull. If afflicted, your friends could lead you astray or may be deceptive. In worse case scenarios, your friends may be frenemies who conspire against you, mooches and losers, or addicts who take advantage of your good nature. Great care must be taken when choosing your alliances. Hey, it’s great that you want to help every stray that comes your way but if they end up sleeping on your couch for decades without so much as cleaning up a crumb on the floor, it’s time for boundaries. Also: set some clear goals if you want to get somewhere. Without good goals, you may drift through life, dreaming instead of doing. Neptune in the 12th house: This is an extremely intuitive placement for Neptune. If you have it here, you’re a natural mystic and may be interested in spiritual modalities such as meditation, yoga, and spiritual healing. You’ll also enjoy time spent in seclusion (hermit?) or in spiritual environments such as ashrams. There may also be interest in working in hospitals, institutions, or charities. This is an excellent placement for doctors, nurses, and therapists. If your Neptune is afflicted, it can indicate mental confusion, neurotic tendencies, and a desire to escape your responsibilities. It can also mean that you could be susceptible to negative psychic influences. If that is the case, better leave that Ouija board alone!
