A business owner can pour their whole soul into their work only to give up and walk away when something doesn’t go right.
When you’re in it for the long haul, that isn’t going to happen.
That’s because your commitment to your vision, your mission, is greater than any failure or obstacle that may knock on your door. You don’t answer that. You keep going.
When you are fully committed to your grind, your focus is locked.
You don’t get distracted by the latest fad or by what your so-called competitors are doing. Trolls? You have not time for that nonsense. You’ve got work to do.
Getting sick? Not an option. You go to work anyways.
You’re in it because your work is part of you. It’s your soul-work. You do it for the love of the work, not fame nor glory.
People know where to find you because you’re always there, ready to serve. You don’t disappear for weeks at a time.
You’re present. 100%. Always.
To be in it for the long haul you have to be ready for the following:
Sllllloooooowwwww months where only a trickle comes in (learn to budget).
Ruthless people who try to jack your swag (protect your work legally).
Bad economies (budgets, a stellar reputation, and innovation will ease you through this).
Emergencies (breathe, take time off if you need, but get back up on that pony).
Unhappy clients (it happens to all of us – you cannot please every person that comes through your door as hard as you may try.).
Technology (learn it + evolve).
Learning to ignore the so-called gurus that promise unicorns and sea monkeys (It’s so tempting to think there is a “formula”. There isn’t.).
New, brighter talent showing up (no worries – there is enough work for everyone).
Big time failure (it will happen and you’ll bounce right back up, smarter for the experience)
And more. It’s not easy, even though it may look that way from the outside to people who assume you’re sitting around in your pj’s drinking cocoa all day.
Long haulers are devoted.
They evolve.
And they are stubborn.
That’s why they last.
Blessings!
Theresa
