Do you ever find yourself with this problem: too much work? If so, first of all congrats: it’s a good problem to have.
But second of all, let’s get real: having too much on your plate can be just as stressful as not having enough.
Being overloaded feels kinda like Game of Thrones’ Hodor in last season’s episode “The Door” – holding the door with all your might as you try to get ahead of the game.
This is not easy, my friends.
I’ve found myself in this position on more than one occasion where I had so many email readings coming in the door, that I could barely keep up with the demand. I pride myself on being speedy but the workload was so immense, I became strapped to the computer for over five hours a day, JUST for email readings.
This was beginning to crush me – and kill my back (us yoga teachers know a sedentary life is hell on your body).
I had to hold the door.
This is what I did:
I started to take down the payment button on the weekends so that I would get a proper weekend off.
I also began limiting the amount I take on during my work days, much as I limit other offerings such as my Tarotcasts and Entrepreneurcasts. When I’m at full capacity for the day, the button comes down again.
This has worked well.
So what about you? How might you hold the door?
In some cases, you might just need to take the payment button down and put up a “sold out” image.
Or you might create a wait list for clients to hop on – and shoot out emails when the doors are open again.
You may want to refer clients to other people. (This sometimes works if the client is impatient but I have found my clients ended up coming back after working the referral – more than happy to wait for me.)
Whatever you decide to do, hold that door and then open it up again when you know you’re going to be at your best. Because ultimately, you want that – to be able to serve your clients with 100% presence. They deserve it. And that can only happen when you have space to breathe.
Hold that door.
Blessings,
Theresa
