I set a challenge for myself a few weeks ago: I would write 1000 words a day for 70 days. My goal: a rough draft of a new book.
Everything was carefully plotted out: I would begin on the New Moon in Gemini (perfect for writers) and make time every day until the task was completed. I’m disciplined as hell so no problem.
In fact, I even planned on writing every day when I was on my road trip to Toronto.
Yeah, those plans were grand.
But we drove to Toronto on no sleep which meant: I was utterly exhausted. Knackered. Depleted. Done. I had no head space for writing anything.
My lofty writing goal came to a screeching halt. I needed to sleep.
Needless to say, this did not sit well with my perfectionist self. I found that I was beating myself up and struggling to get back on top of my game. After a few days of trying to force myself to sit down and do it, I said out loud: stop this nonsense. Set a new date and reboot. Give your body and mind time to rest and catch up on the other important things.
Which is exactly what I did.
My new writing reboot day is today! I’m getting right back in the saddle again after a few days off.
Sometimes you may have big goals. Huge, massive things you want to accomplish. But sometimes life also gets in the way. You get sick, there’s family drama, the computer dies, your cat decides to vomit all over the house (daily around here), or you take a long road trip on no sleep.
When those things occur, don’t beat yourself up. Take care of life or whatever or whomever needs your attention. Then take a moment to catch your breath – and get right back on it.
That is the secret to being a relentless, resilient, and balanced entrepreneur.
I hope that wherever you are today, you’re getting things done in a happy, healthy way.
Blessings,
Theresa
