six signs you're ready to begin charging for your tarot readings

You’ve been reading tarot for a while.  Maybe even a loooonnnnggggg while.  It started as a curiosity, but now…it’s an obsession.  In fact, you’re constantly doing readings for friends, family, and acquaintances.

They all tell you that you’re accurate…and marvelous.  You blush and continue flipping those cards.

But you secretly wonder: can I turn my tarot passion into a legit biz?

Problem is, you’ve never charged a nickel for your talent.  In fact, you’re not even sure if you should/could/can ask for payment (you might even be afraid to).

Sound like you?

This checklist might help you determine if you’re ready to begin charging for your tarot readings:

__ You’ve been at it a long time and built up considerable skill. You can read with ease and confidence.

__ You’re doing more and more readings. In fact, they are taking up a significant amount of your time.  (Memo to you: your time is valuable.)

__ You’re consistently getting positive feedback.   You may even have some who say “you need to start a business.”

__ People offer to pay you.  You’re getting donations or tips all the time – and they are more than happy to do so.  Some people value your work enough to begin paying you a “real” rate.

__ You’re building a reputation amongst the locals.  There is enough word-of-mouth buzz that you are getting constant requests to “please read me.” Sometimes these people are complete strangers.

__ Your gut tells you it’s time. That may be the most important tell-tale sign of all. If you’re feeling it, don’t ignore it.

If you can answer yes to most of those signs, it may be time to begin accepting payment.

Here’s how to begin:

  1. Decide on a rate.  Pick one that feels comfortable.  If you are stumped, research what other readers in your area are charging. Remember, people are paying for your time and talent, so do not undercharge.
  2. Decide on payment methods.  Will you be cash only or will you accept other forms of payment (check, debit, credit)?  Once you’ve made your decision, you need to create policies (bounced check, refunds) and find payment services (PayPal, Square, etc) that will best suit your business needs.
  3. Create a website where people can easily book and purchase readings.  You can do this cheaply and easily with services such as Wix or Weebly.
  4. Repeat after me: stop doing freebies.  Let people know that you are now “going pro” and direct them to where they can purchase your services.

Remember: this is about valuing your time and skills.  If you don’t value them, how can you expect anyone else to?

Blessings!
