I’m crazy about note-taking and journaling. Yeah yeah, electronics ‘n technology are great but there is something about putting pen to paper that really gets things to stick in my busy brain. Take learning tarot for example. I have found that keeping a journal has been a handy tool in my tarot education. I still keep one to this day even though I’ve been at this tarot game for 35+ years! When my publisher showed me the first proof of The Tarot Coloring Book, I was delighted to see that the images had a generous margin around them. My first thought: perfect for adding my own notes!
Here’s what I like to do. I pick a card that I want to work on. Next, I grab a few books that I want to use as a cross reference. In this case, 78 Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack, Tarot for Yourself by Mary K. Greer, and Tarot and The Tree of Life by Isabel Radow Kliegman.
From there – it’s time to study and take notes. Let’s use those margins!
I might jot down notes on a particular symbol. Or, in this case, I found the information on the number 5 and Gevurah (Kabbalah) to be interesting – so I put a few notes from both Kliegnam’s and Greer’s books.
I always make a note of where the info came from. That way, I can refer back. Yes, it gets a bit busy but frankly, those margins are dying to be used this way!
Ta da! That’s my example of my Five of Cups exploration. Now, when I go back to this page, I’ll have some additional insights to help deepen my connection to the card.
Here’s what to do:
Grab your copy of The Tarot Coloring Book – and a few interesting tarot books. Pick a card you’d like to explore and start examining what other the authors have written. Make notes in the margins as you feel called to.
Don’t let your Tarot Coloring Book sit on the shelf – USE IT UP.
Happy coloring!
Blessings,
Theresa
