There are seventy-eight cards in a tarot deck and each one has a different “mood”. What do you feel when you turn over the Moon? Are you struck by the darkness of the card? What emotion does this convey? And what clues might you get about your own inner workings?
Let’s explore those moods with this simple Tarotcise:
You’ll need a notebook, pen, and your favorite tarot deck.
Shuffle your deck, cut it, and then put it face down.
Turn over the first card and ask yourself these two questions:
What is the emotion of this card?
How does this card make me feel?
Write down a one word answer for each question and then move on to another card.
Continue this practice until you have gone through the entire deck.
Then, repeat this one more time but instead, write a one line description of the card using this template:
The (name of card) feels (emotion of the card) and makes me feel (your feelings).
Example:
Ten of Swords
What is the emotion of this card? Defeated.
How does this card make me feel? Uncomfortable.
The Ten of Swords feels defeated and makes me feel uncomfortable.
Now – the fun part: what does that energy say about you?
For me, I hate giving up and always want to finish strong. Defeat makes me feel like a failure and that’s very uncomfortable for me.
More examples:
Two of Pentacles
What is the emotion of this card? Indecisive.
How does this card make me feel? Mindful.
The Two of Pentacles feels indecisive and makes me feel mindful.
When I am faced with indecision, I am forced to be more mindful of my choices. I weigh things through carefully before making a move. This is because I’m a strategic thinker.
Three of Wands
What is the emotion of this card? Hopeful.
How does this card make me feel? Excited.
The Three of Wands feels hopeful and makes me feel excited.
This card says that good things are coming. I love the feeling of good news coming. Having something to look forward to makes me feel like a kid at Christmas!
This Tarotcise not only helps you to explore the moods of the cards but it also gives you an opportunity to explore your own feelings about different situations by using the images as a prompt. Try using this with your clients and see what insights they share with you.
Blessings,
Theresa
