Having trouble jiving with a card? Drawing a blank every time it shows up in your reading?
Here’s a practice that will help you embody the vibe and energy of a card that leaves you tongue tied:
Get that card out of the deck and take a minute to scan it carefully. Choose a figure in the card and for the rest of your day, act as if you are that character.
Let’s use the King of Cups as an example (those pesky Court Cards are often the bane of every beginning tarot reader’s existence!). What is the general meaning of the card? Most people interpret it as a benevolent, compassionate, paternal and loving older male. (I often refer to this guy as the “King of Love” because he embodies mature romantic love.)
How might you spend the day acting as him? You may try to be more compassionate when you interact with people throughout the day. Or at night, you might plan a major romantic gesture for your partner, complete with a Barry White soundtrack (the ultimate King of Love). You want to try to BE the King of Cups as much as you can in every situation. (PS that does not mean you have to wear a costume. You’re simply focusing on the ESSENCE of the card, not role playing. Unless that’s your thing – if so, by all means, get that kingly garb on.)
This exercise can work even for the cards with no human figures. For example, if you are working with the 8 of Wands, you may want to practice moving quickly and being in a hurry all day.
You don’t even have to pick the main figure – for example, you could choose to be the bird in the 9 of Pentacles.
Your imagination is unlimited – you can be the stern Emperor, the hardworking man in the 8 of Pentacles, one of the mysterious cups in the 7 of Cups – the key is to consciously BE that figure all day.
Although this exercise may seem a bit silly, it’s actually quite useful. Many a breakthrough happens when you stop struggling and just be.
Blessings!

PS if you pick a negative card such as the 7 of Swords, that does not mean you get to go off and pull a crime. Common sense, people!
