Sure, you can read tarot like a card flipping badass but running a tarot business requires more than an ability to decipher those cards (trust me, there are many talented readers who can interpret like nobody’s business but they still have nobody coming to their business).
It requires a certain type of person to stay at this tarot grind because it’s not an easy gig.
If you’re in it to win it, you need more than tarot or business smarts. You need grit. Moxie. Cojones.
That means:
Courage – because you’re going to have to get over your fears if you are reading for the general public. Sometimes the general public is not so nice to tarot readers. Take a deep breath and do it anyways.
Knowing yourself + how you best operate – because clarity on your mission and operating procedures will make you far more likely to succeed and enjoy this work (ex: for many years I did “tarot parties”, which was NOT the best environment for a hard core introvert like myself. Dropping parties was the best business move I ever made – and now I’m able to show up for my clients in a more peaceful groove).
Patience – because you’re going to deal with some sticky situations and pushy or ignorant people from time to time. You’re also going to experience days where there is zero work on your schedule, especially in the beginning. Hang in there.
Kindness + compassion – because people are baring their souls to you. They are vulnerable in your presence. If you cannot operate with sensitivity, you could do some real damage. Choose your words with great care.
An open mind – because you’re going to hear things at times that may offend you. When that man wants to talk about his mistress and his wife, your windy judgments need to rest at the door. Not everyone operates by your moral code. Focus on helping + healing, not making someone feel like crap for their life choices. Mind your own karma.
Willingness to learn – because business keeps changing and tarot keeps evolving. If you think you know it all and are done learning, you can get lost in the shuffle. Stay curious, always.
Determination + focus – because, at the end of the day, it’s your resolve and dedication that will keep you going through bad days and good. If you have tenacity, you can succeed, even if the odds are stacked against you.
Stay on your tarot hustle and don’t give up. That’s the ultimate key to starting and growing a successful tarot business.
“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” ~ Mario Andretti
Blessings!
