Years ago, when I was working a party, a rude neurologist looked at my cards and little tip jar and said to me: “Guess I’ll pick up a deck of cards so I can make as much money as you.” Sorry to burst your bubble, King of Snarky Jerks, but it’s not as easy as it looks (PS and my income does not come anywhere near yours). I’ve come across other people like that who assume you can just grab a deck and blammo – instant tarot reader! Actually, it requires a lot of practice and constant learning.
It doesn’t matter whether you have been reading tarot for one year or fifty – the education never ends. There will always be new interpretations and techniques – making it very unlikely you’ll ever truly “master” tarot.
“I’m a teacher. I’m done learning.” ~ Peggy Hill from King of the Hill
Although I believe that you can teach an old tarot dog new tricks, it’s easy to become complacent and stuck in “your way” or to visualize your methods as the only path, especially if you’ve been at it a long time.
In order to avoid becoming stale, make an effort to keep learning. The more you exercise those tarot muscles, the bigger and more flexible they will become.
Here are some ways to continue your tarot ed:
Meet ups: there is nothing better than having fellow tarot fanatics with whom to practice. Meet Ups makes it convenient and easy to find like minded folks and classes right in your hood: http://www.meetup.com Just put “tarot” in the search box and find your new local tarot practice buddies!

Books: there are many classic tarot books that every reader should have in their library – but there are also new books worth checking out. Here’s my list of the must haves: 25 Tarot Books You Must Read If You Want to Grow Your Skills
Blogs: many fab tarot readers have educational blogs well worth checking out. Tarot Elements and TarotEon have always been two of my faves – but don’t stop there – you have so much to choose from!
Blog talk radio: free tarot eduction from groundbreaking shows like Beyond Worlds are a must – and so convenient. Listen live, in the archives – or pop them onto your iPod for tarot learning on the go.
Teleseminars and ecourses: thanks to the World Wide Web, we are now able to easily find classes, both local and digital. Google “tarot classes” or “tarot education” or “learn tarot” and you’ll find plenty of readers offering classes and workshops around the world (offerings change all the time, which is why I did not list them here).
As you can see, there are many options for you to keep on growing those tarot skills. Find a medium that works for you and then get your study cap on!
