Common (Sixth) Sense is a regular feature devoted to practical uses of intuition.  Making intuition simplistic for everyday mystics.

Ever get a sniffle and then ignore it – only to end up in bed for days later?

Or maybe you felt a twinge in your stomach and discover you have a serious gall bladder issue?

Perhaps you sense you shouldn’t be eating that cookie…and then come down with food poisoning later that evening.

How about this: you have a dream about a surgery and then find out that you need to get one weeks later when you are on a routine visit with your doctor?

The body is an amazingly sensitive instrument but often we ignore the signs until a real problem shows up.

Although it may sometimes betray us, the body never lies.

You hear stories all the time of people who felt something was “off” but they couldn’t put a finger on it…and then found out they were gravely ill at their next check up.

Sometimes the body can hide things from us…but often, we get a feeling when something is not right.

Start paying close attention to your body. It has it’s own unique way of letting you know when something is up (or down).

For example:

I was one of those people who chose to ignore my own body’s wisdom one day when I was offered a slice of fast food pizza at a party.  I do not eat fast food because it never agrees with me.  I hesitated and one of the guests said “one slice won’t kill you.”  So I gave in.  Hours later, I was crawling up the stairs on my hands and knees – and I was yellow.  I’m talking Bart Simpson yellow.  It was bad.  I was in  full on gall bladder food poisoning hell and that could have been avoided if I would have listened to my body and that little voice in my head that said “don’t.”

I’ve heard many stories like this from my yoga students: something didn’t feel right, I had a feeling that was a bad idea, that strange feeling turned out to be…

And my dear father, who at 94 was still in pretty good shape, one day said to me: “I think I’m getting ready to die.”  I asked him why he thought that.  “I just feel it.”

Sure enough…a week later, he was gone.

Being tuned in does not mean being paranoid – it’s about being AWARE.  It’s about sensitivity and trusting your intuition.

Listen to your body and don’t ignore those feelings, even if they seem random. They may not be.

Did you ever get a funny feeling that something was off in your body – or that you should avoid some activity or food?  Ever get a minor symptom that turned out to be something major?  I’d love to hear your stories – hit me up on Twitter at @thetarotlady and share yours!

Blessings,
