A question I get asked all the time: “I’m new to tarot. Which tarot deck should I get?” Glad you asked! Here is a list of 7 great tarot decks for beginners that I highly recommend. Most of these are new on the market but I’ve also got a classic in there. Read on:
The gorgeous, inclusive Modern Witch Tarot is so easy to use. The images are bright and true to the standard Rider Waite Smith format. New readers will find the images conjure up accurate interpretations while old hats like myself will appreciate the modern facelift.
Angie Green’s Simple Tarot is just that: an easy to work with deck that has keywords and color-coding. Start here and you’ll grasp the basics in no time at all.
This Might Hurt Tarot has a contemporary, playful style. Like the Modern Witch Tarot, the images are diverse and the colors are bright. This deck is a joy to work with – and one that might delight readers of every age!
Emily Muniz knocked it out of the park with the Simplicity Tarot. The imagery is clear, and the keywords help newbie tarot readers tap into each card’s meaning. This deck will be available mass market soon!
The Crystal Unicorn Tarot is perfect for tarot fans of all ages. It’s sweet, adorable, and great for beginners! Young and old readers will find this deck an absolute pleasure. And who doesn’t like unicorns?!
Of course, a classic is unbeatable. Learn how to read with the Rider Waite Smith deck (the gold standard of tarot in my opinion), and you can read any tarot deck. My fave version is The Radiant Rider-Waite Smith Tarot, which comes in a little tin – perfect for tucking into your backpack and having tarot on the go!
Lastly, I have to mention The Uncommon Tarot by Shaheen Miro, a mystical, evocative deck that will conjure up many meanings. This is a visual masterpiece and a feast for your tarot senses! Plus, I helped with the guidebook so you get my interps! Ha! Available October 1st!
Once you have a deck, you need to practice with a comprehensive guidebook. Learn how to read like the High Priestess with my upcoming book: Tarot – No Questions Asked: Mastering the Art of Intuitive Reading. If you’ve ever wanted to learn intuitively, this is your jam! It’s not just a “throw the book away and read what you see” nonsense. It’s a comprehensive introduction to the tarot with lots of exercises (I call ’em Tarotcises) to help you connect the tarot dots…with your sixth sense. I can’t wait for you to read it! It drops September 1st but you can pre-order it now.
Okay, friends. That’s my list. I hope this helps you to find a tarot deck you love!
Blessings,
Theresa
