If you have a tarot lover or a professional reader in your life, you may find yourself hitting a wall when it comes to picking out the perfect gift.  Why?  Most of us, myself included, tend to have rather large collections of decks.  And some of us also happen to buy every tarot book as soon as it comes off the presses (shoving books under my desk…cough cough…).

That leaves you, who may or may not love tarot, in quite the conundrum. Do you pick up a new deck for your loved one only to discover they have it already?  Or do you get something totally un-tarot and risk our wrath (kidding!)?

Here are some suggestions so that you make that tarot lover happy and avoid getting a repeat of the same old tarot stuff:

First of all, resist buying a new deck until you’ve checked their stash.  Chances are, they may have that deck.  Instead, give a gift certificate so that they may purchase one that they don’t have (one can never have enough decks…ahem).  Amazon is one place but I recommend Tarot Garden instead. Why?  They are tarot specialists, they often have rare decks and they are a small business so the service is impeccable.

One thing that I love to give tarot peeps is a nice journal (most of us do like to keep tarot journals).  My favorite is Ari Stone’s.  These are gorgeous and make wonderful gifts (I love mine!)

A bag to keep the tarot deck safe is always a welcome gift.  If you have mad sewing skillz, go all handmade, yo.  If you don’t, check out Etsy.

Etsy is a fantastic site – it features tons of crafts from different artists all over the world – you can find some unique tarot gifts here.  Type “tarot” in the search button and you’ll come across bags, boxes, household goods, tarot jewelry and more.  (Confession time: I have banned myself from this site because it’s dangerously addictive!)  I have found some of the best gifts here (including my prized Ouija board necklace!).  If you are stuck, this is THE place to go!

If you want to go balls out and be the most extravagant gift giver of all, consider purchasing a ticket to one of the many tarot conferences (Reader’s Studio, SF BATS, etc).  This is a bit over the top but hey, if it gets you more kisses under the mistletoe, then what the hey?

Are they new to tarot?  How about signing them up for a tarot correspondence course?  Tarot School has a fantastic program that I highly recommend – and they also have lots of audio classes to choose from.  (Even old skool readers like myself love to continue our education – a class is always welcome!)

Got a professional tarot reader (or aspiring one) in your life?  Check out my digital gifts page and get a copy of my Tarot Business in a Box or a subscription to Mystical Mogul Tip of the Day.  These digital prizes are easy stocking stuffers and may give your tarot buddy the incentive to rock their business big time.

Other digital business books that I heartily recommend: Art of Earning by Tara Gentile, Red.Hot.Marketing in Minutes by Yolanda Facio, Build Your Business and Blog with Love by Julie Parker, any of the 5 Scripts books by Alexandra Franzen (get ‘em all – they are worth it), Systems 201 by Bombchelle, or Drop Love Bombs Not Spam by Shenee Howard.  These are superb (and inexpensive) digital presents that your tarot pro can really use to up their A game.

Speaking of digital, how about an iTunes gift card?  This will allow your tarot freak to purchase not just music but the latest tarot apps!  (Make sure they are all about Apple before you consider this.)

Another possibility might be membership in one of the many tarot organizations.  There are different groups all over the world – do your research and find one that may be best for that tarot pro in your life (make sure that they are not already enrolled – and that they like being in groups before you choose this option).

Tarot pros suffer a lot of burnout (trust me on that).  A gift certificate to a spa for a lovely massage or manicure (because we use our hands a lot) is always welcome.  (If you are dying to buy me a gift, here ya go.  Kidding again!  Uh….actually maybe not!)

Here’s another idea for that tarot professional in your life: create a traveling tarot kit: get a nice tote bag (find a tarot themed one on Etsy!).  Add: a tarot deck, a bag to hold the deck, a cloth for reading (in case your reader reads at bars or public events – this will protect the deck), a nice small scented candle, a timer, an amethyst crystal and a small bottle of hand lotion.  This gift will delight and it will be useful!

If your tarot professional rents an office, consider soothing music, crystals,  artwork or a new cloth for their tarot table (you can find all sorts of mystical goods on…you guessed it….Etsy!).

Lastly, if you are still stuck after all these suggestions (you really shouldn’t be!), save yourself some grief and simply ASK that tarot lover what they WANT.

Happy gifting,

Theresa
