Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Tabitha Dial

If I had to use one word to describe Tabitha Dial of North Star Muse it would enthusiastic. She is one of the most ardent supporters and promoters of tarot.  It’s evident in every blog or social media post. That passion for all things creative and mystical shines through work – and it’s contagious.

She’s not just a tarot reader – she’s also tea leaf reader and offers these services via email or phone. Yep, you don’t have to be face-to-face with your tea mug – she can pretty much read those leaves no matter where you are in the world! This was a skill picked up from her grandmother, who used to read tea leaves at the bottom of Chinese tea pots at her favorite local restaurant.  (Thanks, cool grandma, for paving the way!)

Tabitha believes that we create our fate.  Her philosophy behind North Star Muse sums it up: “I believe we all have inner navigation. We are at our finest when we trust ourselves. While we have a certain level of freedom of choice, our true purpose is somewhat fixed, like the North Star. Tarot, tea leaf readings, and creative activities help navigate our potential.”

When she’s not slinging cards or reading tea leaves, Tabitha offers creative mentoring. Using poetry, art affirmation journals, or collage and visual board work, she helps people get in touch with their creative side – and their spirit.

She’s also busy working on a divination workbook.  Tabitha says that this will “help stimulate intuition and imagination.” She also states: “I want to connect people to their stories as they interpret their tea leaves, and help them read tea for others.”  I look forward to seeing that come to fruition! And I’m also stoked to watch Tabitha continue to grow her business.  She works very hard and deserves a place in the spotlight.  Let’s keep an eye on this bright star – she’s going places!

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Tabitha: My tarot reading philosophy is my philosophy, too, for life: Make it yours.

Often what we resist most is what we need to work with. No, you don’t have to bend your brain and shift your will. But allow tarot — and allow life — to surprise. Leave no stone unturned. Keep reading about tarot in books and blogs. Listen to those you read for when you read for them. Listen to what they experience during your readings, and pay attention to their observations and perspectives.

Soak it all up.

Had you asked me this question even a year ago, Theresa, I think I’d lean back on how tarot is a psychological tool, how it is holistic and how it is sacred, but also very entertaining and that what I love most about it is how it helps me find and create new friendships. I resisted the idea of fortune telling, and hesitated to admit an ability to tap into Source or a Higher Power. But I appreciate how that is part of it, too.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Tabitha: You always get what you ask for.

I’ve learned from other readers, and experience, that people need specific directions.

As I state on my booking page, “To make the most of your time and money, please be precise in the purpose of your reading. Let me know what question you have or what information you hope to get from our experience.”

We can also always wing it, and see what messages crop up! And I am a bit of a pop culture magick enthusiast — I have seen answers in tea leaves that resemble Mario jumping up and hitting a video game brick.

With all acts of divination, our mindsets and our challenges come out to play. We can engage in them directly, and when you know what you want from a reading with any psychic/mystic, that is to your advantage.

Also, my readings tend to cover more than one issue, because there’s usually a secondary matter attached to the essential theme of a reading. I’ve seen a lot of people who ask for career AND relationship insights, and I’ve been able to broach both in some detail in a 15 minute in-person or phone reading. But prioritize or it’s going to be messy.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Tabitha: Persistence and passion are key. Don’t expect success over night, or over a year or two!

Trust that if you are passionate, the time will go quickly … Sharing your passion with others is a lovely way to gain access to the minds and talents of people both inside and outside any area of expertise that anyone has. This isn’t to say that networking is the answer: It’s part of the larger scene.

In other words (and I still work hard to remember this!), set your intention, show up, and let go of the results. If you are persistent and passionate, you will agonize less about achieving your goals and milestones, and you should feel more free to enjoy what you do.
