Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Lori Lytle of Inner Goddess Tarot

If you want to get an idea of the amazing people that make up our tarot community, you need to get to a tarot conference. Seriously, people. That’s how I met the fabulous Lori Lytle of Inner Goddess Tarot. Sure, we had been chatting online here and there. But there is magic in meeting people face-to-face. You get a feel for their energy.  Well, at least I do.

I spotted Lori over at her booth and ambled over.  A warm hug greeted me immediately.  That’s how I might describe Lori: she’s a warm hug.  Down to earth and total kindness. My kind of people!

She’s also a mega-talented tarot reader.  Take a gander at her daily tarot draws and her Tarot Tuesday posts over on her Facebook page and you’re going to see what I mean. Her readings are compassionate and empowering.  Lori believes that everyone can live the life they desire and her work is focused on helping people to do just that.

You’ll also want to check out her You Tube page.  This is where you’re going to get a fuller picture of her awesome!  Lori describes The Inner Goddess Tarot channel as a place to “explore the practical magic of the Tarot, the beauty and symbolism of the cards.”  Her videos cover the meanings of the cards, how to read them, new decks and books, and as well as a sprinkling of business advice for tarot pros. She’s got a lot going on over there – and a lot to offer for tarot seekers of all levels.

Currently, Lori is working on creating the Inner Goddess Tarot deck.  It’s still in the dreaming and planning stage but starting to take shape. She also has a line of hand-painted sterling silver Tarot and Goddess pendants, created with an artists’ studio in Rishikesh, India: http://innergoddesstarot.com/tarot-shop/ . These are GORGEOUS.

She’s also now offering Focussed Tarot Consultation Packages: Invite Love into Your Life, and Career Path a combination of email and in person/Skype readings that help her clients reach their personal goals. Each reading builds upon the information gained from the previous one, adapted to where the client is and how they are feeling as time progresses, leading to a rich and in-depth road map of how they can get to where they want to be. This is powerful stuff – and the kind of reading that can really change lives.

If you’re ready to meet a real life tarot goddess, Lori is it.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Lori: There is something so comforting about having a Tarot deck in my hand, in my pocket, in my bag… I’m very rarely without them. It’s like being able to carry a whole universe or entire art gallery around with you. They are my trusty advisors who always tell the truth, never pull any punches, who are sure to offer perspective, options and a sense of humor whenever I need them.

I see the Tarot as an empowering and practical tool, one that helps me to connect with and deeply trust my own inner voice, my own Inner Goddess.  When I have a big decision to make, or I’m feeling flustered or overwhelmed, they are a portal to a place of calm wisdom. When I’m feeling excited and optimistic, they open wider perspectives for me and get me even more fired up and inspired.

I’m a firm believer in free will. I think the Tarot can tell you the future in the sense that they can show you where you are likely heading if you keep doing the same kind of things or making the same kinds of decisions. If you like what you see in the cards, that’s great, its confirmation that you are on the right track. If you don’t , the cards can give you an idea of where you might need to shift or focus, or reveal hidden factors or motivations that may not be serving you so well. If the cards do, in fact, show you something that you simply can’t change, they can help you to navigate what’s coming in the most graceful way possible.

At the heart of it all, I feel that the Tarot is a powerful ally when it comes to self-reflection, self- knowledge, and personal growth. The Tarot can help us to clearly identify what will bring the most happiness and fulfillment to our lives, and show us a way to get there.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Lori: I see a Tarot reading as a three-way conversation, between my client, the cards, and me. Everyone in the group gets their chance to speak and be heard. I encourage my clients to tell me what they see in the cards, to ask questions, to be open to going through the process together. I’m always coming from an empowering and optimistic viewpoint, so I encourage my clients to approach the reading in this way, being open to possibilities and new perspectives, rather than taking a fatalistic approach.

Before I meet with a new client, I send them a few questions to ponder (or this video). If they want to, they can share the answers with me ahead of time so that we can hit the ground running when we meet, but it’s not compulsory. The most important thing is that my client is able to take a quiet moment and get some clarity on what it is they are hoping to get out of our time together. General readings are helpful, of course, but if it is possible to be specific, I find the cards will give more precise answers.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?

Lori: I love books. I totally understand the temptation to dive into them, to luxuriate in all the wisdom and serene solitude. When learning Tarot, it is very easy to get lost in the many amazing books that are out there. My advice is: don’t do it. Studying, book learning and memorization is crucial, but don’t let yourself be paralyzed by it. It is equally as important, if not more so, to listen to what your intuition is telling you and to develop your own personal connections with and meanings for the cards. And don’t forget to actually USE the cards! Practice, read for yourself, take the leap and read for others. This is what will take your skills, confidence and love for the cards to a much deeper and richer place.

Lastly, trust yourself. Listen to your intuition. Enjoy dancing with the cards and flowing with the story, it’s a beautiful thing!
