Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers 3 questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Elijah Hicks

Sometimes a tarot reader needs to get a reading. You can’t always be objective when you’re looking at your own stuff. Which is why I decided to get one from Elijah Hicks a few months back. I wanted to look at my business through another lens to see if there was anything I needed to do.

I’ve known Elijah through various social media channels – he’s always been a straight-up and compassionate guy so I knew he’d deliver the goods in a way I’d like.

The reading was sent via video, which was pretty cool. I could look at the spread, see which cards he used, and understand where he was getting his interpretation. If you are a visual person, you might like this. Elijah gave me some great guidance including a suggestion to look over my website for things that needed to be cleaned up. My website is pretty darn tight so I wasn’t sure where that might apply.

But lo and behold – a few weeks after the reading, I found a major issue on my site! Long story short – I had to make some changes and updates that were sorely overlooked.

I’m STILL finding little bits here and there that need tweaking. So…yeah….right on the money!

Again, it was stuff I couldn’t see – and that’s why it’s often valuable to know another reader like Elijah, who can point out what you need to look at.

In addition to tarot, some of the other services he offers are hypnotism, past life regression, and advice without cards. It doesn’t take long to see that this is a man on mission to provide healing. He says this about his work: “My core motivation is to encourage people to live healthier and happier lives through the use of physical, mental and spiritual tools.”

Elijah is not only a mega-talented tarot reader, but also an all around good guy.  He lives in Wilmington, Delaware with his wife and three children and is a high school math teacher by day. If you want to learn tarot, you’re in luck: he’s expanding into building tarot courses and more over at teachable.com.  Learn more about him by visiting Elijah Hicks. Highly recommended!

Bio:

In his own words: “I’m Elijah Hicks of Wilmington, Delaware. I’m a father of three kids and a husband. During the day, I teach high school math at an inner city high school. By night, I’m a tarot reader and hypnotist. I began reading in July 2013 and I’ve truly enjoyed this journey. I believe that we came to Earth as a master class for our soul and the best way to live your life is to master ourselves and then serve others.

Currently, I’m building courses one teachable.com. I have completed my first course Tarot for New Readers and I’m looking to build three more. The next three will be Weight Loss with Hypnosis, Intro to Numerology, and Advanced Level Tarot Reading. Weight Loss with Hypnosis is a personal struggle of mine that I will turn into an opportunity to help other people.”

Check out his answers to my questions below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?
Elijah: My philosophy for tarot reading is to use the cards to create a useful story for my clients. I include in the story the things that are helpful and harmful to their concerns. With the story, I paint a picture of where they are headed. If the direction doesn’t seem favorable, I offer suggestions to change the course.
Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?
Elijah:  A client will get the most out of a reading with me when they are willing to take responsibility for their life.  I avoid pity parties and move towards actions and habits that will allow for change to take place.  I believe in empowerment and I believe we all have the power to improve our situations.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring tarot reader?
Elijah: My advice for aspiring tarot artists are to look at movies and people in their lives and try to explain the situation in terms of the tarot.  For example, a new reader may have a boss who is loving, but doesn’t put his foot down for important topics.  The new reader could say, “This behavior reminds me of how a King of Cups would run an office.”  By making these connections in their daily lives, the meanings of the cards truly come to life.
