There is a woman who has used my email tarot reading services many times in the past. I’ll call her: the deal seeker.

The deal seeker is determined to “get her money’s worth” which means she’s also fixated on “getting as much detail as possible” and endless follow up questions in order to “get her money’s worth.”  She wants to make sure I’m working as hard as possible because god forbid, I shouldn’t have “easy” work.

I have had to set endless boundaries with her. For example: reminding her again and again that I do not allow follow up questions.  She always claims that she’s “confused” which is malarkey because anyone who has worked with me before knows that my communication is clipped, concise, and right to the point.

People who want a no-nonsense, straight-forward reading love that about me.

She, on the other hand, thinks this is short-changing her in some way.

The last few times she tried to book an email reading, she made a point to ask if she would “get enough insight” from a three card email reading. Translation: “I want many cards and pages of details for my $35.00.”

I politely told her that my service may not be what she’s looking for and sent her off.

Yet there she was, the other week, with the same question.

Sigh.

I was in the middle of a meeting and didn’t have time for this nonsense – I told her that she seemed to need some tarot reading with a bunch of cards instead of what I offer.

She got miffed and snidely said that she understood that I was “working smarter not harder” by offering “easy and fast” email readings blah blah blah.

Excuse me?

This woman didn’t understand that a three-card tarot reading takes me about 20 minutes to do.  More if my arthritis is acting up.

The deal seeker also didn’t understand the time involved, how valuable my time is, or how I operated – even though she has worked with me before.

Instead, she wanted me to conform to what she wanted – a lengthy email reading with back and forth follow up questions…for $35.00.

Now maybe that $35 is a lot to her but endless back and forth is a lot to ask of me.

That’s not the way I work.

I sent her on her way with names of tarot readers who offered ten-card layouts and more.  Because I’m not going to work with someone who wants me to work in a way that doesn’t make sense for me or my business.

Neither should you.

If a client makes an unreasonable request – don’t take on that work. It’s not worth it. Send those people on their way – or to other service providers that offer the service they want.

Remember: it’s your business. The right clients will get that (and you) – and never try to pound a square peg into a round hole.

Blessings,

Theresa
