Sometimes  your clients or coaches may have suggestions for your business.  You might want to listen to those suggestions…or not.

For example, I’ve had clients ask me for 45 minute sessions for a while now. They felt that they needed more than the standard 30 minutes but not quite a full hour (cause I’m efficient).

I thought about it.  Listened.  And voila – am now testing it out to see if it is a go…or not.

If it makes my clients happy, I am willing to listen.

But how do you discern when to take a suggestion or not?

When it doesn’t make sense for your business, then it’s fine to say “thanks but no thanks” and move on.

For example, I’ve had coaches tell me to ditch the one-on-one work. That doesn’t make any sense to me because my work is all about one-on-one. It’s intimate stuff. A “signature program” based on group work is not how I roll. And not appropriate for tarot readings.

I’ve also had a few clients tell me that they want “more cards” for their email readings. These types really want “details”  (aka get their money’s worth) and assume that they’ll get just that if they get “more cards” instead of the standard three card email reading.

What they don’t realize is that they are paying for my time. A three card tarot reading takes about 15  – 20 minutes to type out.  I charge $35 for that. The same price I charge for a 15 minute phone session.  It doesn’t make sense to add in a bunch of extra cards because that means the email reading, which is designed to be concise and efficient, suddenly becomes a major time suck.

That doesn’t work for my business.  Therefore, it’s ignored.

The next time someone offers you advice on how you should run your business or what you should offer, etc., etc. – ask yourself this: does it make sense? Does this add more work to my life or does it make my work life better for me and my clients?  If you feel that it’s an unreasonable request or something that just doesn’t jive with the way you work, ignore it and move on.

If it doesn’t make sense or feel right, you don’t have to listen.

Blessings,

Theresas
