Your questions about tarot readings by phone answered!

Many years ago, one of my beloved senior clients broke her hip. She called me and asked if I could do her reading over the phone because getting up my stairs would be impossible. “We can try.” I said and we did. The reading worked so well that she told all of her friends and they stopped coming to the office. Since that time, more and more clients switched over to tarot readings by phone.

It’s just easier for them…and me. Offering tarot readings by phone also opened my business up to lovely new people who live at a distance. I would never have the ability to serve those clients if it wasn’t for that. It really has been one of the best business decisions I ever made.

Last year, I stopped seeing new clients in-person. After a couple of funky incidents, it was time. Besides, this was the direction my biz was heading anyways.

While a few prefer the in-person experience, most people find the phone and email to be more convenient. Instead of having to brave traffic to get to my office, I am now a mouse click away.

But now with my new policy in place, every so often, I come across people who balk at the idea of a phone session. When I gently explain that this is not how I work anymore, some get angry (one lady said “I prefer the personal touch” whatever that means) while others begin peppering me with questions.

Why can’t I come in? Don’t I need to touch the cards? How can this work if you can’t see me? Is this like a psychic hotline thing?

Here are my answers:

Why can’t I come in? Because this is not how I want to work, period. End of story.

Don’t I need to touch the cards? Nope. Actually, there are many tarot readers who don’t allow you to handle their cards even for in-person sessions. What’s more important is that you come to the session with an open mind and don’t play games –  that rule goes for phone sessions and in-person.

How will I know that you’re actually reading those cards? Because you’ll hear me shuffling!

But I want to see the cards! I want to know what you’re looking at! I always tell you exactly which cards I’m looking at as well as the spreads I am using. Better yet: I record the session so you can go back and lay out the cards if you are so inclined.

Is this less personal than an in-person session? Nope. You still get me, my cards, and the same routine that I have always used. I still provide the straight-shooting, no-nonsense tarot readings I’ve always provided. My personality and methods don’t change just because you’re not in front of me.

What are the benefits to a phone session? You can do the reading in the comfort of your own home. You don’t have to be local. There are no stairs to climb. You don’t have to drive through the icky traffic or find a parking spot. Running late due to traffic – not a problem any more! Instead, you can kick back and pour yourself a cup of coffee. This leads to a relaxed experience which is better for your tarot reading. A phone session also means: no distractions on your end or mine.

Also, your session is recorded, which means you get a nice MP3 delivered to your inbox the same day. You can refer back to your recording as often as you wish. If you’re worried that somehow a phone session will lose the “personal touch”, you’re wrong – a phone session works exactly the same as if you were sitting right in front of my face. You get the same friendly treatment.

How can I get the most out of my phone session? As I stated before, come with an open mind. If you feel comfortable, send a picture of yourself before our session. Make sure you are in a quiet space where you will not be disturbed. Jot down a few questions that you may want to ask. Then, kick back and let me do my magic!

Can you do a video session with over Skype? Nope. I don’t use Skype for two reasons: one, it’s not reliable. And two, the video is extremely distracting for me. It breaks up my flow and that inhibits the reading. If you are out of the country, you can still use Skype to call me but I’ll be on a landline.

Is this like a psychic hotline? Not at all. Psychic hotlines are a whole ‘nother kettle of fish. Those readings are “on demand” which means the reader is sitting around waiting for someone to call. While some people don’t mind this, I find the energy to be desperate, stressful, and not conducive for a reading. Tarot readers like myself are not sitting by the phone hoping someone will call. Instead, you get an appointment and a set amount of time. The vibe is relaxed and centered. This keeps the anxiety low and makes the experience better for both the reader and the client.

What if I don’t like this method? Can I get an in-person session if prefer to work this way? If you don’t like this method, then it is better to seek someone who offers you the service you want. My in-person sessions are strictly for old clients. No exceptions. (Psst…I have a list of referrals if you prefer face-to-face.)

Can you make an exception for me? Nope.

*A special note for tarot readers who are considering switching to phone work, I highly recommend it. It’s convenient plus you’re going to be safer, calmer, and more effective. It allows for healthy boundaries. As I said above, it’s one of the best decisions I ever made in my business and I think you might find the same.

I hope this answers your questions!

Blessings,

Theresa
