Picking Christmas Gifts With Tarot

Having trouble choosing the perfect gift for your loved one?  Stumped or short on time and creativity?  Tarot to the rescue!

Here’s my fun (and cool)  tarot method to help you tap into your generous Secret Santa and pick killer prizes that will guarantee some major hugs ‘n love – using the Major Arcana!

Grab your tarot deck and pick out the Major Arcana cards only.  Shuffle them well.  Lay the cards face down and then fan them out.  Now, concentrate on your future gift recipient and ask the tarot: “what would be the best gift for _________?”  Let your intuition guide you as you draw a card.  Turn it over and use the handy dandy gift guide below to help you brainstorm the best possible prezzie ever (please keep in mind that these are only suggestions – if you don’t like ’em, use the suggestions below as prompts – be imaginative!):

0 – The Fool: FREEDOM: a gift of freedom could be a day off for overwhelmed parents (take the kids to a movie + give the parents a gift card for a local restaurant) or an offer to do something your loved one hates doing (you can come and clean my house LOL).  Think this: how can I help them get rid of one task and free up some time?

1 – The Magician: SKILL:  does your loved one have a hobby that they are trying to perfect?  How about a class to foster skill development?  Ballroom dancing lessons for that graceful gal, Rosetta Stone online language courses for budding linguists and adventurous travelers – go for fun but make it something mentally stimulating.

2 – The High Priestess: INTUITION:  a gift of intuition and clarity always delights – tarot readings, astrology charts, and all that mystical goodness will enlighten and inspire.

3 – The Empress: NURTURING:  turn into your best Mommy Dearest with a home cooked meal or freshly baked treats to fill a grateful tummy; or for those on a diet perhaps a hot stone massage (I’m always a huge fan of massage – it’s a very pampering prize indeed).

4 – The Emperor: ORDER:  give a gift of organization with a brand new gorgeous planner for writing down important dates + top secret missions; fancy files for the CEOs in your life or for a fun twist – a book on organizing with a feng shui slant (tackle mystical + organizational in one fell swoop).

5 – The Hierophant: TRADITION: go for the holiday ho ho tradition with a fab fruitcake (if you pick this card for me and get me a fruitcake, I’m going to chuck it – ha!); a CD with Christmas carols; a family photo (complete with holiday sweaters!) or a collection of Dickens’ greatest works for the youngsters.

6 – The Lovers: LOVE + COMMUNICATION:  get all jiggy with your honey – scented candles and chocolates are all ooh la la; but for others, a book on communication fosters positive relationships.

7 – The Chariot: MOVEMENT:  help them get away from it all with a practical gift card for the local gas station so they can fill up their tank; plane tickets if you are being extra givey; luggage – anything that inspires a good adventure.  If they can’t travel, a book on far flung journeys could take them there nicely.

8 – Strength: POWER:  tap into their buff side with a gym membership or some exercise equipment. And for that uber macho person in your life, a new power tool!

9 – The Hermit: QUIET:  a gift of peace could be a day at the spa or a snazzy new meditation cushion for those extra Zenny people.

10 – Wheel of Fortune: LUCK: have them try their luck with a bag full of scratch off lottery tickets; for the spiritually inclined, a manifesting book;  and goofy good luck charms for the kiddos.

11 – Justice: BALANCE:  help your frazzled loved one get the gift of balance with a mindful life organizer book; or a super healthy cookbook if they are looking for balance on the scales.

12 – The Hanged Man: PERSPECTIVE: encourage your buddy to see new ways with an inversion chair for the adventurous; for those less likely to hang upside down a spiritual tome for new insights may be a better choice.

13 – Death: CHANGE:  it’s time to encourage big luscious change – time to get rid of the ratty stuff: new purse, fabulous new duds, a gift card to the hairstylist for a updated do, luxey beauty products….encourage some hot transformation!

14 – Temperance: CHOICE: it may be best to let them decide on their own – get a gift card that allows them to spend wherever they want on whatever they want.  Yeah, I know some people think gift cards are a cop out – I happen to think they save a lot of headaches and give your peeps the freedom of choice.

15 – The Devil: TEMPTATION:  time for something naughty – lingerie and fuzzy handcuffs for your sweetie; deep dark truffles for friends; sugar charged treats or a forbidden video game  for the kids (one that mommy might cluck her tongue over – hello parental guidance sticker!).

16 – The Tower: UNEXPECTED:  blow their mind with something over the top and super extravagant – a new car if you are feeling super generous (and are rich!);  a coveted retreat; tickets to the opera; a new puppy – go buck wild here!

17 – The Star: HEALTH:  be all mindful and health conscious with yoga DVDs; a healing box from a gifted earth angel; Reiki sessions with the real deal; a donation to a charity in their name if they are more interested in the health of the world instead.

18 – The Moon: DARK: go deep ‘n mysterious ‘n sexy with evocative art; erotic books; moonstone jewelry or groovy trance music.

19 – The Sun: INNER CHILD + JOY:  encourage play with season tickets to the game for the men in your life;  a girl’s day of shopping and lunch for the ladies; for the kids – get the biggest wish on their wish list filled (no haggling – just do it).

20 – Judgment: REBIRTH:  what uplifts them?  Spiritual books that enlighten; religious art; a session or group class with a coach for the business person who is looking to reinvent themselves; a glorious class for those who wish to rule their own world. <-affiliate links

21 – The World: COMPLETION:  what would make their world complete?  It may be adding to their Star Wars toy collection; an opportunity to tap into their desires with a whole new map; a brand new kitchen gadget for the home chef; or the latest Barbie for that little sweetheart in your life.  <-affiliate link

These prompts should get your Tiny Tim thinking moving towards bigger + generous quickly!

“It isn’t the size of the gift that matters, but the size of the heart that gives it.”  ~Quoted in The Angels’ Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994

And if giving gifts isn’t your thing, always remember that the greatest gift of all is the gift of your presence.

Merry Christmas and happy giving,

Theresa
